The Various Typers of Data Capture
(continued from previous page)
Bar-code
This is a variety of AutoID very commonly used in the retail industry, where different formats are designed for particular products. All kinds of this technology though, greatly reduce costs of labor and human errors in the processing stages, as well as save time for both the customer and the establishment.
The "UPC code" is the most well known bar-code, widely used on retail items and recognized by cash register scanners. New "2-dimensional" codes are now being applied, allowing much more information to be stored than the familiar linear codes.
RF Tagging (Radio Frequency Tags)
Although similar in concept to bar-code, the beauty of RF tagging is that there is no need to know where the tag is to be able to count or track the item. Uses for RF tagging have grown in diversity as this technology becomes more affordable and compact, being particularly useful for expensive items that change location as well as livestock and pets.
Some Uses For RF Tags:
Vehicles Rental equipment Large Items Service items Livestock “House Credit Cards” for restaurants Pets
